We have been exploring websites that teach a variety of keyboarding skills.
Fifth and fourth graders are working on their keyboarding skills using UltraKey. The use of "home row" and the practice of reaching individual fingers to type are the foundation of this program. Each new lesson concentrates on adding two more keys, until eventually the entire keyboard is used.
Third and second graders are learning about how the library materials are placed in order through a program called Order in the Library. We practice using the alphabet and putting books in order. This involves clicking and dragging with the mouse, so they are becoming experts at mouse manipulation!
First graders and kindergarteners have been practicing logging on and off using their id numbers and then using the mouse and keyboard.
